1978 Center of Soperton

December 20, 1978
Soperton was originally a station on the new railroad (c1902). Over the years, the bronze marker at the depot denoting the center of town was lost. In 1978 local surveyor Charles M. Zeigler was employed by the City to research and make accurate maps and place markings. A new bronze marker was placed at the edge of Second Street. Since that time the street has been widened, the railroad signal post relocated, and resurfacing has covered the 1978 marker.

Others that week: Lions Ladies Night, truck wreck, TPS programs, Soperton UMC oldest members, Nursing Home program, Lothair UMC program, TES third grade students, basketball, THS pinatas, TES program.
