One year after a national corrections inspector condemned the Treutlen County jail as "one of the worst, if not THE worst," a $100,000 renovation was completed.  All it cost out of local funds was $15,000.

James R. Holland was appointed Director of Public Relations for AARP. His parents were F. Ross Holland and Eleanor S. Holland of Soperton.

Murphy McRae gave up newspaper publishing for the more lucrative world of insurance sales - Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society.

The total in the Deer Contest reached 118.

The FFA made a field trip to Montezuma for a milking experience.
