YOU ARE THERE - December 4, 1985


A suit by 13 black registered voters brought on a five-district plan for the election of county commissioners and school board members. District 5 was 70.73% black.  District 1 was about half and half.  Districts 2, 3, and 4 were from 82% to 88% white.

Mike Statum had fresh blackberries growing behind his shop in the Blackville community.

Sara Cook won the trip to Can Cun, given away by Soperton Tastee Freez.

The SHS class of 1950 held a reunion at the clubhouse.

An old fashioned Thanksgiving was observed, as usual, at B. L. Powell's.

Gilbert Hester shared his programs from Clay's Tent Theater in Soperton, dated December 1938.

The Jaycees were sponsoring the Christmas parade.

Almost 100 deer were registered in the Sportsman's Club contest.

Jerry Horne killed a six-foot diamondback with 19 rattles on GA 46 in Wheeler County.
