YOU ARE THERE - October 22, 1980

There were 13 contestants for Forestry Queen and 40 for Little Miss Pine Seedling. (Didn't have those other divisions back then.)

The railroad requested of the city that train speeds be raised from 15 mph to 25 mph.

Ella Brooks received a National Geology Award.

Teen of the Week was 1979 graduate Kelly Collins.

The Spanish Club visited St. Augustine, FL, with Mrs. Brown, Mr. Lee, and Mrs. Morgan.

Stuart Stanley Day was observed.

Metter defeated Treutlen, 29-22.

Treutlen County was featured in "Brown's Guide," a popular state magazine of the time.

As the festival grew, so did its promotion.  The newspaper insert circulation was 35,000 in Treutlen and nine surrounding counties.
