YOU ARE THERE - October 9, 1985


The Million Pines Festival poster (distribution of 4,000 in 30 counties) featured the Goat Man, Georgia Ag Museum mobile unit, Smokey the Bear, Mike the Magician, the Cumberland Cloggers, and much more.  It was the 13th annual.

Chamber President John Smith announced that the Citizen of the Year Award would return to the original concept of one person. It had become as many as six honorees - male and female, youth and senior, etc.  It turned out at the banquet a week later, two recipients - a man and a woman.  Finally the Chamber did away with the award.

The Sheriff's Department harvested a truckload of marijuana in the the Five Points Community.

Wayne Hooks was getting ready to refurbish the jail with assistance of the DOC.

Judge Leroy Gillis died at age 80.

Seafood platter was $6.99 at the Grand Opening of Lakeside Restaurant in Vidalia.

There was a big crowd with lots of activity at the Farm Bureau banquet.
